Why should you work with Heated Way Technologists?
Today not only general HVAC technicians offer snow melt heated driveways, but also many plumbers and general contractors, yes! You read it right; general contractors install heated way systems. Although some of these systems may work( at least for a year or two), there are solid reasons that after many years of HVAC work, we decided to specialize in creating heated driveways.
Snow Melting Systems, just like many other systems at your house, have their own ecosystem. It’s not rocket science, but it needs more than experience to calculate and design the right system for every house.
For every installation, we have to:
- Make specific calculations based on the shape of the land, steps, porches, etc.
- These calculations depend on the material, soil, concrete, etc.
- The types of pipes we use in every project can differ. With different pipes, you need different BTU/HR/SQFT.
- Overkilling or Underkilling is very simple, and it happens constantly with non-professionals. They sometimes overkill by installing giant boilers and pumps, which melt your snow and your pocket every winter.
- Underkilling means the system cannot run smoothly and melt all the snow at the right temperature. Raising the temperature or waiting longer for the snow to melt would be best. Both cause damage to the piping system.
- Glycol Feeder or any other liquid feeder has a specific debye. By overusing it, you make the life of the system shorter.
- Remember, you must spend thousands of dollars to have peace of mind. You don’t want to deal with the deficiencies of the system every single year.
Our recommendation is to work with us or any other professional driveway system designer, for that matter. Spend a little more, but make sure the system is tailored to your house. Not a copy from other houses. And remember, only HVAC professionals can do boiler and other equipment installations legally. So if something happens with your gas line and you have your plumber who has installed your heated driveway system, good luck fighting with insurance.
