Radiant heating systems are standard for heating residential and industrial buildings and melting snow in GTA. In a snow-melting system, radiant heat transfer results in warming the snow and eventually melting the snow on the sidewalks and driveways. HeatedWay Company brings you peace of mind on snowy days by providing services such as designing and setting up a heated driveway and heated sidewalk systems.
So, if you are looking for snow-free driveways, continue reading to learn how this system works and how HeatedWay can help you.
Radiant heated driveway installation
The energy required for an Electrically heated driveway system is provided by electricity. This system uses electric wires directly under the ground’s surface. The operation of the electric heating system is more accessible than the hydronic one. There is no need for water and a boiler in this system. The electric circuits used instead of pipes provide us with radiant heat transfer. But the cost of using this system may be high due to the high cost of electricity.
Wet installation
This is the oldest type of installation for radiant heating systems. Electrical cables, mats, or hydronic pipes are embedded in a thick concrete slab or thin concrete floor. This means that this installation is more expensive than dry installation. In this case, it takes longer to heat the floor, but concrete retains heat for several hours after the system is turned off.

Dry installation
Dry installation is the cheapest and the most convenient type of radiant heating system installation. Heating cables, mats, or pipes are installed in an underground air chamber. In other words, these installations are not embedded in concrete. As a result, heating occurs faster. The system must operate at a higher temperature in this configuration because the heating equipment is not embedded in the floor material
How does a radiant heated driveway work?

Radiant heating systems transfer heat to the environment through the floor, wall, or ceiling. In the heated driveway systems, heat is transferred through the ground. As their name suggests, these systems rely on radiant heat transfer. Radiant heat transfer is the heat transfer from a hot surface to the environment and objects through radiation. The hot surface in snow melting systems is the surface of the ground. The earth’s surface is heated by an Electrically heated driveway or a Hydronic heated driveway system. Then it heats the snow and ice. As a result, the heated driveway system will melt snow and ice.
Boiler installation
This is the oldest type of installation for radiant heating systems. Electrical cables, mats, or hydronic pipes are embedded in a thick concrete slab or thin concrete floor. This means that this installation is more expensive than dry installation. In this case, it takes longer to heat the floor, but concrete retains heat for several hours after the system is turned off.
